Track lighting kits: what a run kit includes and leaves out

A kit, as we use the word, is the rails, power feed, joiners, end caps and mounting parts for one run, packed with track heads matched to that rail's wire system and voltage. The contents are built from your run, not from a fixed box, so the parts list is where every kit starts.

Track rail kit parts laid out together
Rail, feed, joiners and heads for one run.

What a kit contains

  • Rails for every leg, counted per leg from your lengths
  • One power feed for the run (a second for long loops, if confirmed)
  • Straight joiners within each leg
  • L or cross connectors at each corner or crossing
  • End caps for open ends
  • Surface, recessed or suspension mounting parts, per model
  • Track heads matched to the rail wire system and voltage

What a kit leaves out

  • Supply cabling and anything behind the ceiling
  • Switching and control gear outside the rail
  • Ceiling fixings that depend on the substrate, unless agreed
  • Installation — that's work for a qualified installer
  • Any part not on the confirmed list

Kit contents are confirmed per enquiry. Nothing is added to a kit without appearing on the list we send back to you.

When a kit fits

A chain of stores rolls out the same rail layout in each location. The run is drawn once, counted once, and the same kit ships to every site, so each installer opens one box and finds the full run, heads included.

It also fits a single run where the buyer would rather not count small parts at all.

When it doesn't

Runs that vary from room to room, or a fit-out where the ceiling isn't confirmed yet. In those cases loose parts, counted per run with the rail parts planner, are easier to adjust when the layout changes on site.

It doesn't fit, either, when the heads come from a separate order: the head match still has to be confirmed.

Confirm before a kit is packed

  1. Leg lengths and layout for each run, so rails and joiners can be counted per leg.
  2. Wire system of the rail, and the grouping arrangement for that exact system.
  3. Head type for each position, matched to the rail wire system and voltage.
  4. Mounting method and the parts it needs for your ceiling, per model.
  5. Finish across every part in the kit.

For the parts themselves, see connectors and power feeds.

Turn your run into a kit

Run the planner, send the list and say you'd like it packed as a kit. We'll confirm the contents line by line before anything is packed.
